The first mainline run of Rebuilt 'Royal Scot' 4-6-0 No 46115 Scots Guardsman took place in typical Settle and Carlisle grey weather. It looked magnificent with 11 (mostly) maroon coaches and 'Thames Clyde Express' headboard, as if it had never been away these last 50 years. It was disappointing to see it so lightly loaded: I guess that if WCRC had announced the run with more than a few days notice, it would have been packed! Let's hope for more enlightened promotion in the future. The sound on departure from Appleby was stunning, and could be heard for several minutes.
