The summer of 2004 will be remembered for the return of the magnificent BR Class 8 Pacific No 71000 Duke of Gloucester. Her owners have clearly achieved a very high standard of overhaul, both mechanically and in her external finish.

The Duke is first seen briefly storming through Lancaster on 6 September. More detailed studies were possible during visits to the East Lancashire Railway on 19 and 26 September. Finally she is seen departing from Crewe on a railtour on 9 October, and later that day at Hellifield and Settle.
