This day trip to London was to see as many as possible of the post-privatisation trains now operating in the London area. The journey to London was made on one of the Operation Rio Midland Mainline HSTs which were providing a direct Manchester to London service via the Midland route to St Pancras, during the worst of the engineering delays on the West Coast main line.
