The first mainline run of Tyseley's restored GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 No 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe was to Didcot, to visit the other great centre of all things GWR. For 'insurance', the train was double-headed with No 4965 Rood Ashton Hall, on the penultimate run of its mainline ticket. Lively running on a bright morning was followed by both locos and the whole train being stabled within the Didcot Railway Centre. They had brought out sister Castle No 5051 Earl Bathurst, contributing to a fine lineup of copper-capped locos. The return run was rounded off by a storming ascent of Hatton Bank, followed by the fastest running of the day to the stop at Dorridge.
