Three Pacific locomotives were scheduled to pass through York Station this Saturday. First to appear was the magnificent LMS Stanier Pacific No 6233 Duchess of Sunderland, on its Spring outing from Leicester to Scarborough. Then I thought there was time to spare before the next arrival, and went to see some old favourites in the National Railway Museum. The sound of a chime whistle alerted me to the early arrival of Gresley A4 No 60019 Bittern with the first leg of the six-day North Briton railtour. I caught a glimpse of it in the distance before BR Standard Class 8 No 71000 Duke of Gloucester backed down to take the tour on to Scotland. Finally I captured some new sights on the modern East Coast route.
