This morning, two magnificent maroon LMS Stanier Pacifics were due out of Crewe on special trains. First away, around 8.30 am on a dull morning, was No 6233 Duchess of Sutherland on an out-and-back run to Carlisle over Grayrigg and Shap.
No 6201 Princess Elizabeth was due out to Holyhead, but was seriously delayed by the failure of the Deltic bringing the excursion from Colchester.
