A special family occasion invited celebration by an outing on the PMR Tours 'Citadel Express' from Crewe to Carlisle and back with the magnificent Stanier LMS Pacific No 6233 Duchess of Sutherland. Sunshine and faultless running, with many miles at over 70 mph and minima of 39 on Grayrigg and 37 on Shap, made a splendid outward run, and at Carlisle we watched another steam arrival. Recording on the return run was abandoned in favour of the on-train catering, but time was kept or bettered throughout and we arrived on time at Crewe and said farewell to the Duchess.
