A fine afternoon but only three hours to spare - it would have to be something local.

I decided to get some more practice with my new camera by spending an hour on Manchester Piccadilly, where I was able to capture examples of all the units which visit the station regularly.

Then down to the basement to catch a Metrolink tram on the new extension which opened this week, heading eastwards to Droylsden , an intermediate town on the route to Ashton-under-Lyne, which will be reached later this year.

The only downside of this was having to pass the Etihad Stadium - I plan an early restorative ride to Old Trafford!
