Today, the newly built A1 Pacific No 60163 Tornado paid its first visit to my home city of Salford, en route for another city nearby. It was hauling the Royal Train, carrying Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall to the oldest railway station in the world, Liverpool Road, Manchester.
This is now the site of the Museum of Science and Industry, the venue for Prince Charles' first engagement. I first saw it pass through Patricroft station near Eccles. Much later, when the visitors had departed, the general public were
allowed into the museum to see Tornado before it left.
