Two visits to East Coast stations in mid-December showed the new franchisees of Inter-City services, National Express East Coast and (Arriva) Cross Country already displaying their respective corporate images. Most heartwarming was the sight of the fourth preserved Gresley A4 4-6-2 Bittern, finally running successfully on its home route after so many delays. A good omen for 2008 I hope.
