After last week's disappointment when No 6233's special to Holyhead was cancelled at the last minute, it was a delight to find the magnificent Stanier Pacific standing in the sunshine at Crewe yesterday morning.

Its train arrived slightly late but it pulled away purposefully to take its 13 coaches over Grayrigg and Shap. I glimpsed it again near Warrington on its return run.
